Our Favorite Sourdough Supplies!

Our Favorite Sourdough Supplies!

We are so happy you're here and ready to start your sourdough journey! Sourdough has brought so much joy and connection into our lives and we are so excited to share that same passion with you. We know getting started can feel overwhelming, but hope that the content we’ve created will give you the confidence you need to bake your own bread.

Below are some links to our favorite baking products.  This post contains affiliate links, which means we make a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only share products that we have personally used and loved.

Starter Kits - Banneton and Bread Lame

This kit comes with banneton baskets for two loaves, a bread lame, and a scraper! Perfect for getting started. While not a necessity, banneton baskets are a great way for your bread to hold its shape and get cold before baking. They are made from cane and allow air to get to your loaf so it is not as wet. This will help you score your bread because you won’t have to use as much flour to dry out the top.

Dutch Oven

We personally own these Dutch Ovens and can attest to how wonderful they are! We love the size and shape for sourdough baking. Plus, there are lots of colors to choose from so you’re bound to find one you love. We recommend getting a dutch oven that is a minimum of 5 quarts for sourdough baking.

Parchment Paper Squares

Perfect for lining your dutch oven for baking so that the bread doesn’t stick! The individual squares are so handy and are durable so you don’t have to worry about them ripping when you take your bread out. I use these for everything, baking cookies, separate foods in the freezer and even in my air fryer.

Bread Sling

We also love these bread slings and love that they cut down on parchment waste.

Food Scale

We use food scales to measure our bread recipe because this gives you the most consistent result. If you measure by cups, you won’t have the same amount each time. This food scale is one that works great and has held up.

Bread Lame

These UFO style lames are easy to hold and make scoring more fun!

Bread Knife

A serrated knife is essential for cutting bread! This knife cuts through bread so fast and is great for cutting your sourdough.

Bread Bags

We love these paper bread bags! They are the perfect size for a traditional sourdough boule. The paper helps the loaves breathe and the plastic window shows off your gorgeous loaf. This set of 50 is perfect for all your gifting needs!

Aprons

The cutest!! I tend to make a mess when I bake, I get flour all over my clothes and counters. I’ve started collecting aprons and love wearing them. They are a great way to make sure my baking mess is contained to my counters instead of my clothes! This way, if I have to run to the store, I don’t look like I just walked out of a flour war zone.

Dough Hook

These dough hooks make mixing your bread dough by hand so easy! Think of it like a whisk and a wooden spoon had a baby. As you are mixing, you can easily scrape the dry ingredients from the side so everything is incorporated. Since getting a dough hook, I now use it every day to mix bread, pancakes, and scramble eggs.

Dehydrated Starter

This is our sourdough start that we’ve dehydrated to get you baking faster! Yes you can start your own starter with flour and water but that can take up to a month to get established enough to bake with it. By getting a dehydrated starter, you are able to bake within 5-7 days of reconstituting it. This starter has become strong and is what we use to leaven our own bread so we know how well it works!
